Reader's question: "The site is a bit confusing!"

From David. Thank you for your honesty, David! And okay, I'll admit David is not the only person to give me similar feedback. For example: "Don't understand the actual diet. It's like reading Catch 22." Tim "It's a bit fiddly trawling through the posts."  Joe I would like to start by thanking everyone for this constructive feedback. We have listened and we completely agree. The site has outgrown its initial blog format, it has become confusing and it needs to change. Extra special thanks to Tim for equating our site with one of the greatest English-language novels of the 20th century ! We have come up with a two part plan to make this site easier to read. Already done I have change the site settings so you are always greeted with the welcome post. "Next post" links have been added to all the method posts. Longer term I have (almost) managed to cajole Maxine's brother (let's call him Clive) to turn this into a "proper" web

Reader's question: You have translated y = mx + c into a shopping channel

From Sean. Wow! Thank you Sean for this question (or "topic") which I must admit threw me at first! Disclaimer: what follows is a journey into mathematics that I really never expected to happen on this website. It may seem a little nerdy. But I love nerds! Nerds are most welcome! But I'm not one myself, honest. What I would like to state up front is that  The Weight Loss Diet  is most certainly NOT a shopping channel and I have no interest in setting one up. After consulting a friend (let's call her Maxine) who is well versed in matters of algebra, I now understand Sean's point, or at least the mathsy bit. Here is how the conversation went. I said: "Maxine, I have received a comment on  twld.org  saying I have translated y = mx + c into a shopping channel . What does that mean?" Maxine said: "Haha! I think maybe you harbour a secret desire to set up a shopping channel." I said: "What? I wasn't asking about that bit. No I don't. Do

Reader's question: Then what does she do? I’m on the edge of my seat!

From Kimchi Thank you Kimchi, for another brilliant question! Kimchi asked " Then what does she do? I’m on the edge of my seat! " in response to the Melissa example in our  Let's do this  post. I'm so pleased these questions keep coming in. All of a sudden, this website is almost writing itself. To bring our readers up to speed, in the story, Melissa had achieved her goal weight of 71 kilos. It's a great question indeed. What then? Well, this depends entirely on what Melissa wants. Example One Melissa is a professional Muay Thai fighter, targeting  a specific competition in the 71 kilos category. The weigh-in for her fight is on day 81, one day after she reached her Goal Weight of 71 kilos. Her fight is on day 82, which she wins.. Following the fight, she pauses dieting for a while to kick back and congratulate herself on her victory. One month later, Melissa starts to focus on her next fight, for which she needs to weigh in at 69 kilos. Again, she chooses  The We

Reader's question: Can I weigh myself at lunchtime instead of in the morning?

From Paul Thanks Paul for this star question, which really got me thinking. You didn't actually state why this would be of interest to you but that doesn't matter. It's a great question which has allowed me to improve  The Weight Loss Diet . Yes, I see no reason why this would not work. But first, let me explain something I should perhaps have clarified earlier on. For my " Daily Target Weight ", when does "today" begin? I had previously said "when you wake up" is when you have to weigh yourself and start fasting, if you have not met your  Daily Target Weight . An implication of this is that you can eat unrestrictedly until you go to bed. Assuming you always go to bed before 2am and never get up before 5am, we can imagine a specific time such as 3 am when your new Diet Day begins. You are always asleep at this time, so there is no confusion. But for some people, their sleep pattern may be wildly different across various days. On some days they

Reader's question: Is this just an "eat less" diet?

From Mike This is a great question, Mike, thank you for it! No, it isn't!  The Weight Loss Diet  is GOAL-BASED, not METHOD-BASED. Of course, on the days when you don't meet your  Daily Target Weight , you need to fast until you meet it. While you are fasting, you (err...) are eating less. But, once you have reached your  Daily Target Weight , there is no requirement to eat any less than normal across the day. You may find that you eat less overall when following the  The Weight Loss Diet , or you may not. Weight gain or loss is not as simple as food intake alone. As you get to know your own body, you will find what is right for you.  The Weight Loss Diet  takes care of the goal, so you can relax into your journey towards it! Thanks again for the fantastic question.

Reader's question: How much does it cost a month to do this diet?

From Nick Thank you for the great question, Nick! Well... there is the initial outlay on a set of digital scales like these , which you want to be reliable and accurate. I'm based in the UK and I would say you would expect to be spending £30 or upwards on your scales. You could always ask a friend if you could borrow theirs for a while but, once they find out what you're up to, they will probably want them back! After the initial outlay, there is NO COST to doing  The Weight Loss Diet . Certainly there are no subscription costs. In fact, once you start thinking about it, on the days where you don't meet your  Daily Target Weight , you technically SAVE MONEY while you are fasting. It then occurred to me, and this may be getting a bit too philosophical, but  The Weight Loss Diet   could well be unique in that the WORSE you are at it, the MORE MONEY YOU SAVE! Let me know your thoughts on this one! Thanks again for the question.

Preparation for  The Weight Loss Diet  really could not be more simple. Step 1 You will need regular access to a reliable set of digital scales  such as these . Step 2 Find out your current weight. Step 3 Choose your HEALTHY Goal Weight (see  our post on this ). Step 4 Choose your  Target Daily Decrement  (more on this in a bit). Step 5 Work out your  Daily Target Weight  (more on this in a bit too!). Next post - "Choosing your Target Daily Decrement"

Choosing your Target Daily Decrement

Your Target Daily what??? Here we learn about the key ingredient of  The Weight Loss Diet , the  Target Daily Decrement . This is how much weight you ARE GOING TO lose each day. Did you notice I said "are going to" not "want to"? When choosing your  Target Daily Decrement , you need to consider that it must be: Measurable Achievable To be measurable , your scales need to tell you your weight at the appropriate level of detail. For example, my scales go down to a minimum level of 50 grams. I'm going to stick to metric measurements here, but the principle stays the same. So, the smallest Target Daily Decrement that I am going to be able to measure is 50 grams. But I could also target 100 grams per day. And so on. To be achievable - you have to get to know your own body and it also depends on your level of activity. What I suggest, is aim low at first. Then, if that is too easy, you can start to aim a bit higher. The  SMALLER  Target Daily Decrement you choose, th

Work out your Daily Target Weight

Now you have worked out your Target Daily Decrement , you can work out your  Daily Target Weight . Your  Daily Target Weight  is are going to be different every day. Starting with your Initial Weight , Your  Daily Target Weight  reduces each day by your  Target Daily Decrement  until you reach your  Goal Weight . Confused? Don't be! Here is an example. Example Jones has an Initial Weight of 100 kilos and a  Target Daily Decrement  of 50 grams. The initial weigh-in day is Day Zero . Jones' Goal Weight is 90 kilos, which they will achieve in 200 days. On day zero, Jones' Initial Weight  was 100 kilos. On day one, Jones'  Daily Target Weight  is 99.95 kilos. On day two, Jones'  Daily Target Weight  is 99.90 kilos. ... On day 199, Jones'  Daily Target Weight  is 90.05 kilos. On day 200, Jones'  Daily Target Weight  is 90.00 kilos, which is also their Goal Weight . Next post - "Let's do this"

Let's do this

Ok, so you have done all  the preparation , including working out your Initial Weight  and Goal Weight , choosing your  Target Daily Decrement  and finally working out your  Daily Target Weight . What now? Simple. Relax for the day, you are done. Tomorrow morning, when you wake up, weigh yourself. Have you achieved your  Daily Target Weight ?      If so, fantastic, you are on target! Relax until the next day!     If not, you need to fast until you have achieved your  Daily Target Weight . It is REALLY THAT SIMPLE . Example Melissa has a Target Daily Decrement of 50 grams. She starts  The Weight Loss Diet  on Monday, and her Initial Weight is 75 kilos. Her Goal Weight is 71 kilos, a loss of four kilos, which she will achieve in 80 days. Monday is Melissa's Day Zero . Tuesday is Melissa's Day One . On Tuesday, her  Daily Target Weight   is 74.95 kilos. She wakes up on Tuesday and weighs 74.8 kilos. She does not need to fast today, because she weighs less than her  Daily Target
